What to look for on a $2 bill
- Red seal: a United States Note (1928–1963) - worth more than a modern $2
- Star after the serial: replacement note; 1976 stars from some districts bring $10+
- Large size (7.4 × 3.1 in): printed before 1929 - every one is collectible
- 1976 note with a stamp and postmark: first-day issue souvenir, a few dollars over face

$2 bill value questions
Is a 1976 two dollar bill rare?
No. More than 590 million Series 1976 $2 notes were printed, so a circulated one is worth $2. Crisp uncirculated notes sell for $2.50–$5, and star notes from low-printing districts bring $10 or more.
How much is a red seal $2 bill worth?
1953 and 1963 red seal $2 notes usually bring $3–$8 in circulated condition and $15–$25 uncirculated. 1928 red seals are scarcer at $8–$25 circulated. Star notes of any of these sell for more.
Is my bill worth more because of its serial number?
Sometimes. A star (★) after the serial number marks a replacement note, and short star-note print runs sell for well above face. Collectors also pay premiums for “fancy” serials: very low numbers (00000001–00000100), solids (77777777), ladders (12345678), radars (12344321) and repeaters (12341234). An ordinary serial on a modern bill adds nothing.
