Money Identifier
A free paper money identifier: find out which banknote you have from a photo. Upload the front and the back, and the identifier reads the note and finds it in a catalogue of 42,000+ banknote types.
Banknote identifier: identify a bill by photo
Works best with the bill flat, straight-on and in daylight. The text is read in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Identify a US bill by its seal
On American paper money, the colour of the seal is the fastest way to tell note types apart, and each type has its own price range.

Usually face value; premiums for 1928–1950 series, stars and fancy serials
Blue seal
Silver Certificate, 1878–1964

Red seal
United States Note, 1862–1971

A paper money identifier in your pocket
The web identifier reads printed text. The Dollar Bill Scanner app looks at the whole note: portrait, vignette, colours and layout, the way a collector does. That is why it can name old money like a worn 1899 note, a Hawaii overprint or a foreign bill in Cyrillic or Arabic script.
Each identification opens the note's catalogue card: issuer, series years, signatures, high-resolution images of both sides, and a price for each grade. Save it to your collection and the app keeps a running total of what your notes are worth.
Already know the note's name? Check its value by name. Everything else the app does is on the Dollar Bill Scanner app page.

Identifying paper money
How do I identify a banknote?
Read four things, or let a banknote identifier read them for you: the issuer (country or bank) and the denomination, both printed in large type; the note type across the top, such as Silver Certificate or Federal Reserve Note; and the series year. A photo identifier reads these for you and matches the design against the catalogue.
Can I identify paper money from a picture?
Yes. Upload a photo of each side above and the text on the note is read in your browser, then matched in the catalogue. The Dollar Bill Scanner app goes further and recognises the design itself, so it also works on notes whose text is worn or in an unfamiliar script.
Is the banknote identifier free?
The banknote identifier on this page is free. The Dollar Bill Scanner app is free to download, and your first scan in the app is free.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
Not on this page. The text recognition model runs inside your browser, and the photos never leave your device. Only the words it reads, such as “5 dollars silver certificate”, are used to search the catalogue.
What if my note is not American?
The catalogue covers 42,000+ banknote types from around the world, including euro, pound, Canadian and Australian notes, Latin American and Asian issues, and historical notes of countries that no longer exist.
