5 Dollar Bill Value
Modern $5 bills are worth face value unless they carry a star or a fancy serial. Blue seal $5 silver certificates from 1934 and 1953 sell for $7–$15 worn, 1928 red seals $8–$20, and the large-size 1899 “Indian Chief” note brings $250 or more in any condition.

$5 bill value questions
How much is a 1934 five dollar bill worth?
It depends on the seal. A 1934 $5 blue seal silver certificate sells for about $7–$15 circulated and $40+ uncirculated. A 1934 $5 Federal Reserve Note with a green seal is worth $6–$10 worn. The yellow seal North Africa version brings $15–$40.
Are old five dollar bills still legal tender?
Yes. Every US bill issued since 1861 is still legal tender at face value - but older notes are usually worth more to a collector than to a cashier, so check them before spending.
Is my bill worth more because of its serial number?
Sometimes. A star (★) after the serial number marks a replacement note, and short star-note print runs sell for well above face. Collectors also pay premiums for “fancy” serials: very low numbers (00000001–00000100), solids (77777777), ladders (12345678), radars (12344321) and repeaters (12341234). An ordinary serial on a modern bill adds nothing.
